Some interesting omissions due to only 1 player being allowed to be selected per position, per team.
Brayden Point was left off the team, depsite leading the entire AMBHL scoring. Hardly fair for Brayden, his family, whl scouts and fans who will be watching to leave a player off the team in place of some of the others who made it. Let us know who you think should've been on the team but who isn't.

Leduc sends 2 forwards by listing one of them as a Defense in the last 2 weeks. What does that say to the Defense who have battled for them all season? Wow

The funny thing with that is that Kord Pankewicz is the one who has been playing defence lately. It wasn't Gregor. However, you have to wonder if those was just to have both players on the team in some sort of way. Maybe Brayden Point or Tanner Macmaster should've played defence for a few games.

what exactly does this "all-star" stuff mean? Do they play in a Battle of Alberta Game?

Anonymous said...

Congrats to the kids who get to play! I'm sure each team could interchange other players just as good and in some cases maybe better, but it is what it is.

Great opportunity for Gregor but too bad for Hickey or Smith that are true defensemen.

A number of all stars didnt make the team that could have been there but due to numbers or team ranking could not go:
Point - Bisons
Mowbray - Bisons
Zip - CAC
Shaw - KC
Estephan - SSAC
Patterson - SSAC
and more
I would be in favor of breaking up the all star game into north and south separate games
Send 2 forwards and 1 defence from each team. Coaches choice for the final roster spots in the south as they have 2 less teams than the north.

You would think leading the entire league in scoring may get you on an allstar team that should be enough.Point is also one of that teams hardest working players a class act on and off the ice has only taken 6 mins in penalties leads them in game winners team captain. This shows what the Bisons coach values. MacMaster is also a deserving player and leads the league in goals.Something is flawed with this system, one or the other was going to get left off.Point is a mature young kid and may have been chosen not to make it because he could overcome it.

I think Brayden Point has to be the most glaring omission I've ever seen since scouting this age group back in 1995. I know from speaking with a few WHL scouts who will remain nameless, they feel he will not be picked before the 3rd-4th round. I can say this, whoever selects Point might have themselves a Jordan Eberle or if you look at this year, a Brendan Gallagher to show for themselves. It saying that, we have Point ranked at #20 right now.

Anonymous said...

I know of couple of lists that have him higher than #20

Kord has played defence for most of his minor hockey, last year Leduc was loaded on D, so the coach last year converted him to forward. This year the reason he has been put back on D are alot of reasons, Hickey was injured with a concussion as well Leduc's D has struggled at times with the acception of Smith and Hickey.

AMBHL All Star game is a joke, every year kids play in the game who shouldn't and there are kids who should be in the game that are not. So let's drop the "ALL Star".

One of this years best examples of who is playing is and should'nt be is ----Bechtold from Strathmore "Okotoks" cleary not an All Star, he will represent that ever improving program in Okotoks?
It is a shame that this gets screwed up almost ever year, I suppose that this "game" is just a life lession.
Speaking of Point Mr. Western Elite you may of spoken to some of your pals in Saskatchewan who think he is 3rd or 4th round pick, are these the same guys who scout for certain teams who almost always have a crappy team and future? Just asking.......
Point will go in the first round; why you ask, it's called skill. His skill level is very high, please point out 1 kid who see's and process's the game better. Of course Point has alot of things to work like any other 14 year old.

Just my 2 cents.

This kid your concerned was omitted. Is he getting unfair amount of ice time in racking up his point score? I am surprised over the years you have not seen unfairness before. For every kid chosen there is one that has been missed. He is not the only kid in this age group that wasn't given the perks they deserve.

1:27 PM - You are right we live in a unperfect world, lets keep this All Star game as medicore as we can. Others have been wronged so lets keep making those mistakes over and over. Clearly you are not a business owner.

Just to stat a fact - the Bisons coach rolls the lines, to a fault I might add, please watch a Bisons game.

The point I was trying to make is this; The All Star game is not an All Star game, the AMBHL should call it something else. If you want a real All Star game for this age let the coachs pick. Again this system would not be "perfect" although it would be much better then today's system. I 'am not saying change the format for the sake of change, it's that the process in place is poor at best.

The best player in this game is Ty Mappin, rebels White played the Bisons line matched him with Macmaster he got 3 points macmaster got 1 assist, they play rylas he got too goals duke got 1 assist, he is clearly the top player in this league

Anonymous said...

Point to make. Brayden Point is a very skilled and
talented player BUT has always played on a team and
line that makes him look good, with players as good
as him.

Not all top players are that fortunate. Most top players in other leagues are required to bring out the best
in those players who are not as talented.

In the end, I believe most scouts will see where the
true talent is.

You cannot compare Mappin to the top players in the south (Point Macmaster, Duke, Wong, Bleackley) As another poster pointed out, many teams roll 4 lines while Red Deer White plays Mappin over 30 minutes a game. Any of these other players would have over 100 points at this time if they had that kind of ice time

Anonymous said...

Red deer white plays mappin as much as they play their top guys because they line match so you havent seen them play that mch if your saying he plays over 30 minutes a game when he plays as much as those guys do while shutting them down

Anonymous said...

5:39 you make a great point. If Bleackley had any good quality players on his line I think he would have double the points he has.

Anonymous said...

Watched a game where Mappin came off the ice for less than a minute in the last 10 minutes of a game. Line matching????? Don't think so, he gets way more ice than anyone else in the league.

Anonymous said...

I have only seen Mappin play 3 times and he easily played 30 min. You can call it line matching but there was no one to match against. He is not at the level of the top players in the south in my opinion as well

Anonymous said...

bechtold isn't a real all star ahead of bleakley but he has good qualities. size, hands and can see the ice he should go 5th 6th round and may have a future. but has lots of work to do.

Anonymous said...

conner bleackley is has good qualities but is very selfish and dosent think the game very well he needs to think better during the game.

Anonymous said...

Bleackley Is Highly Over Rated in my list we have him going 6th Round. so definitely bechtold won't go till alot later if he goes at all

Anonymous said...

Bleackley over rated? 50pts in 19games on a subpar team...are you kidding? He may seem selfish in some situations but it's because of his desire to win on a team that is struggling. Do you actually watch his games? As for Bechtold going to the All-Star game...he's a standout on a struggling team as well. Bleackley had a broken wrist and Okotoks had to send a player, he is their best option other than Bleackley.

Anonymous said...

Mappin added 2 assists and an overtime then received mvp playing the same amount as everyone else..

I talked to bechtold after one of his games and he seems like very "cocky" kid and I talked to his coach and he said he doesnt do too well in school. I personally think he should smarten up cause the NHL doesnt need another Mike Comrie!
