Friday....

We are now in to the home stretch of the season across the various bantam leagues in western Canada. The St. Albert tournament, Kamloops tournament and the provincial select camps are ahead yet. However, in the mean time, there is still league action and league playoffs to take care of.

Taking a look over the SSBHL, it was Balgonie running their league record to 9-0-2 with a 7-2 win over the Regina Oilers. For Balgonie, 97 born Jayden Halbgewachs led the way with 2-2-4 and Gordon Westeste also had 2-2-4 in the game. Halbgewachs is just one point of the team lead in scoring. The Regina Oilers got a goal and an assist from Adam Edmands. Edmands is Regina's leading scorer this season with 10-10-20 in 13 games.

Weyburn, fresh off their GSHL tournament win over the Russell Rams returned to action and walked all over the Yorkton Terriers 7-1 and out-shooting them 36-11 in the process. Trey Tendler scored 3 times for Weyburn. Tendler had 9 goals in 5 games at the Saskatoon tournament over the New Year's weekend.

The Regina Senators shut-out the Regina Hurricanes 6-0. The league's leading scorer Zak Zborosky had 2-3-5. Zborosky now has 18-18-36 in 14 games. He has opened up a 6 point cushion over Tim Vanstone in the scoring race.

..............................

In the GSHL last night, it was the Saskatoon Outlaws defeating the Martensville Marauders 5-3. Leading the way for the Outlaws was Jordan Walls with 3 assists. Kolten Olynek was held to just one point. A pair of 97 born players both scored goals. Connor Hobbs and Wyatt Sloboshan each continued their good seasons.

..............................

The Winnipeg Bantam AAA League will resume action today with a pair of games. Same go's for the Centre Four Hockey League in Saskatchewan.

..............................

In the PCAHA, the BWC Bruins squeeked by the Surrey Thunder 2-0. In what was said to be a sloppy game, BWC outshot Surrey 30-9. Scoring goals for BWC was Cam Seto and Connor Burk. BWC remains undefeated in league play this season. Last night, Mission played their first game this season in Flight 1 and came away with a 2-1 victory. Landyn Hickmott had 1-1-2 in the game. Hickmott is expected to be drafted in the first couple of rounds in the bantam draft. From Wednesday, South Delta also played their first flight 1 game and narrowly lost 4-3 to Cloverdale. In case anyone is wondering, Tyler Sandhu who is expected to be a top 5 overall pick has 10-4-14 in 10 league games.

The OMAHA will resume action in B.C. tonight with a pair of games, including a big showdown with POE facing Kamloops.

Tyler Sandhu is so over hyped. Not trying to rip on a kid, but seriously.

kid #4 from Bantam Canucks is destroying kids right now. Our Blackhawks were getting killed by this kid, he hits too hard and is huge maybe 6 2, someone said he is a 13 year old.

WHO IN THE WORLD SAI BWC AND SURREY WAS A SLOPPY GAME. Why does everyone think Surrey sucks. Both sides played very well. Shots were not 30-9 BWC. more so about 25-20 for BWC. Surrey Thunder AAA = Most underrated team in BC. btw, both BWC goals were lucky bounces, prooving that Surrey is a top team.

Sandhu doesn't rack up the points, but never ever turns the puck over. He is a complete player who finishes checks, has great hands, a deadly shot, and will even dump and chase. Points are everything, imho he is still a top 5 pick.

Anonymous said...

Gotta agree points aren't everything.Watch the kid play, best in PCHA that's PCHA not other Provinces.Saw him play in the bby tourny looked good to me,had bwc pretty worried during their 2nd game.Seafair is definitely a better team when they have injuries.

have to agree, points aren't everything, Sandhu is still top 5 pick. As for Surrey-BWC, have to agree, not a sloppy game, well played, shots were about even.

Anonymous said...

i was there surrey had nine shots.ice was terrible

Anonymous said...

surrey had more than 9, BWC always tells everyone they had more. their home game scorekkepers will put shots like 35-1 when it is obviously BS. Ice was terrible though.

The question about Sandhu is what is the upside here. He is a player who is very talented full grown and not able to be a offensive dominate player in an average Bantam league. What happens to him 3 seasons from now will even more players by pass him. There was a time when he was always a big time scorer.Id say top ten pick but with some questions. Upside ,compete level.

Kamloops ties POE 3 all last night. Not a bad game.Fairly even play.

Anonymous said...

We will see what Kamloops is made of in St Albert as the pool they are in is very strong.

Anonymous said...

i dont think ppl. have heard what 2 way forwayrds are. Sandhu is best 2 way forward in the draft. the upside is he creates oppurtunites for teammates and cares about his team. he doesnt rack up 50 points in ten games, but his plus minus is great. He is an offensive threat, have you seen his shot? I also agree Surrey is most underrated team in BC. Guys like Point and Mcmaster from AMBHL care about points only, and themselves. How many of the top ten fwds from alberta have ever put their body on the ice to block a shot.

Sandhu is a very good player with lots of upside. Very smart and he is competitive. He will be a top five draft pick or else some GM with a lower pick will be very happy. Surrey was 4-4 in tiering and is below.500 during league play. That's 19 games into the season with an average record against tier one teams. They fall somewhere 7-10 in BC and 4-6 in pacific coast. They are better than most but not anywhere near the top four in BC on a consistent basis.

Anonymous said...

In tiering, Surrey had to play BWC twice, while missing their top players. teams like abbotsford got the luxury of playing langley twice, and cloverdale playing south delta twice. They are currently 4th in PCAHA with 2 games in hand and a big game coming up against Sefair. They are one of two teams that have come close to handing BWC a loss. i belieeve abbotsford is a top WEHP team losing to surrey 3-2 and beating them only 5-4. Sefair only won tim jardine tourney because surrey was going throuhg some problems with parent complaints, and had 3 D for finals, with 1 forward playing D. They definetely can beat any team in the league when playing good, but consistency is a problem, and goaltending.

Lol!!! More B.C parent whining!!

Anonymous said...

Not BC, PCAHA!

Anonymous said...

Your right my BAD! Those PCHA parents are nuts!! Lol

caught Westside vs POE game.Very surprised you have Menear boy in first 2 rounds? And Funk from POE??

Anonymous said...

I wonder how long it will take Daddy Funk to chime in like he usually does?...

Anonymous said...

cmon dowwwwn sugar daddy funk!who got the funk?we got the funk!

Surry, bareley beat Seattle 97's team how are they a top team. Is Seattle 97's that good?

Anonymous said...

there bad goalie played and let in a pair of goals from centre. They already had playoff spot locked up. They didn't want to risk injuries, (That is why the bad goalie played) And even if, you could say surrey had a shitty game, just like the bisons and JDF.

Anonymous said...

that's just what i think

Anonymous said...

Tehy went 7-0 in everett. beating the top california teams. Surrey mustv'e done something right.

Anonymous said...

What are the latest rankings in BC?

Anonymous said...

The Cali teams there were AA not AAA teams.

Anonymous said...

I heard Seattle's 97's tied Semi early in the year.

Anonymous said...

So? Does anyone think Semi is a top team? And would that matter? Top teams have some bad games. Lower teams have good games. Goalies get hot and cause upsets. Its why they play the games. The top teams are consistent but they can't be at their best every night. NSWC only lost to BWC by one goal. Kelowna beat Kamloops...once. Every team eventually loses a game and you can't base your comparisons on the one anomalous game.

Menner is going to be a suprise to most, he has all what coaches will be looking for, minus the crazy hockey parents... Go Westside Go!!!

Anonymous said...

Somebody wants to stir it up!

Anonymous said...

I get a kick out of this site ,some player's get overly talked about and rated .Then other hockey players that are just as good in each province they barely get talked about. That is why there are Scouts that see what's really out there and make the final decision .Love It....

After the 4-1 loss to South Delta last night, is anyone from Surrey still arguing that they should be an elite team?

Anonymous said...

Elite? When you have a league recored below .500 you can't even be considered as mediocre.

Anonymous said...

It will be interesting to see what Sandhu can do against the Hounds in their first meeting in St Albert. Hes a great player for BC however Alberta and Sask have some unreal kids.

Anonymous said...

Cloverdale only beat south delta 4-3?

Anonymous said...

It will be interesting to see how Seafair does in St Albert. As for Sandhu he is good but he can't do it all on his own ,he ain't no Gretzky .They definitely r the weak team in their group

Anonymous said...

Sandhu only played in 7 first half league games, not ten. they loose 11-0 to BWC without him, and with him only 3-2.

Anonymous said...

He played in the 11-1 loss. You are mistaken. He may not have felt his best but he played.

Anonymous said...

Sandhu will give the Hounds fits.

Anonymous said...

Jan 15 9:57 Im sorry, i was told by two different people he did not play, but he mustv'e had a bad game or seomthing, because the 3-2 game seamed more like a game where he played a huge role. And i also heard defair had an injury or 2 so They didn't have to roll the lines like they did when they lost 11-0. I wasn't at the games, but was told by people.

I can't wait to See Sandhu vs. Notre Dame, we will then see what he can truly do against the best.

Anonymous said...

Sandhu will not give the Hounds anything. Notre Dame has several player up front that are just as good in Uhrich, Penner and Cardiff. Hounds "D" men will be hard to beat. Fleury,Chevalier and Boston who has played with Sandu (Cyclone taylors) and against for (SPI) several times. They are all great kids and should be a good game to watch.
