Can anybody stop BWC in 2011-2012?

Adam Musil will be taking his talents to BWC
The long storied BWC program has been a powerhouse in the past couple season making it to westerns on both occasions.  However, next year could be even better than this year was, if that is possible.  The team will return a key cog at each position who were more than capable last year as first year bantam players.

Matt Barzal, who had a call-up as a 12 yr old the year before and didn't look out of place was the teams leading scorer as and underage and should be able to put up similar numbes as to what a fellow BWC Bruin star Ryan Nugent-Hopkins did in his draft year.  Barzal is currently and has been the top 1997 born player in western Canada for quite some time now.  Defenceman Ty Schultz will help anchor what should be a very strong defensive group which include Dom Masellis, Eric Lee, 98 born star Dante Fabbro and Matt Barberis.  Nick McBride is likely the top 97 born goalie in the west so they are stable there.  98 born Tyler Shugroe will look to learn from McBride and see some time as backup.

Back to the forwards though for a moment.  News has come out that Delta star forward Adam Musil will be joining Matt Barzal and Justin Szeto to form one of the best lines in western Canada.  Musil will replace the departed Chris Seto, who will be leaving to play closer to home in Cloverdale.  Several players such as Ty Ronning, Nick Holowko, 98 born forwards Kyle Uy, Jake Kryski and Owen Seidel will look to add some offence.

Teams that should be chasing BWC this season will be Cloverdale, Abbotsford and NSWC.  Mission Stars could surprise some this year with a strong group of 97's.

---------------------------------------

Western Prospects Development Camp in Regina is underway and Tyler Kreklewich from Melville is proving to be a force and a player to watch.  He was named player of the game yesterday and seems to have taken his game to the next level.

I think we are all crazy if we forget about CAC out in Alberta, no real super stars, but their depth should be enough to make most teams 2nd and third lines cringe. Their coaching staff also comes from a AA league and provincial championship team CAC Real Estate weekly, who I had the pleasure of scouting in the playoffs + provincials, I'm not sure who these young guys are, but they had this team playing impeccable systems. By their league stats all they did was score goals, as they led the league in goals for and against. Not to mention, I noticed the neutral zone trap and at least 2 different fore checks + a deadly umbrella power play.. what will they do with a very good AAA roster?? Rumour is BWC, The Pacific Selects out of SOCAL and CAC are playing in their own mini tourney,(as I have been invited to scout) does this mean their organizations all feel that they are the top notch teams, the representative mentioned there will be a 4th team? Who will that be??

There is absolutely no way that BWC is going to have that many 98 born players on it and be considered a powerhouse...i don't care how good those 98s are. BWC is once again going to stock up with talented 2nd year players and possibly 2 98's will make that roster.

Will OHA be good enough to play AAA or AA like last year? Not many Okanagan AAA teams this year.

How good will kamloops be?

I'm not sold on Tyler Kreklewich taking his game to the next level. Seems to be an average player at best to me. Also noticed he left the prospects camp and didn't compete in his last couple games.

an interesting comment as to how many 1st years will make the BWC 2011-2012 Bantam AAA team. Last years team consisted of several 1st years (Barzal, Schultz, Gurney, Seto, Szeto, and McBride).

I guess we will see how many NEW 2nd year players BWC picks up and how many leave.

rumor has it Owen Seidel has left BWC after 5 to 6 champion years at the BWC club.... talks he maybe going to POE, OHA or back to his home association.

coaches talk

Calgary Bisons- Merkley,Shmyr and Brown say HELLO bwc. See you at Westerns!!!

Anonymous said...

Barzal musil szeto ronning Holowko Shultz fabbro and Mcbride can not be stopped. Those bisons guys wouldn't even be top 5 on burnaby

Seen Barzal and Szeto playing for boston at Naps.Way over rated. The rankings will change drastically when season starts.

Over rated Barzal played In westerns as an underage led his team to westerns as a first year. This year he'll be unstoppable

How can you say brzal is overrated, hes already been in two westerns, won one. guessing your kid doesnt play tier 1 and hasnt been to westerns to wtch him eh?

The thing about bwc's first years is that they really stepped up last year, barzal and szet lit us and every other team up, schultz was solid in D (didnt really notice him but that might be a good thing as afirst year playing with 3 top defensemen) Mcbride was amzing last year and split 50/50 with rana, he also stepped up when rana got injured to keep their undefeated state. I remember when we palyed them and i saw rana out i though 'oh yay we got the first year!' we ended up losing 11-1. only weak player was gourney who never got much ice time.

Gurney will be a good player this year though on bwc. A solid 3rd line player

The Bisons will not be a contender for the BWC, the Bisons will finish in the top 6 in the AMBHL South Division, probaly 4th place.
The Royals will be the team in south, not sure how they would match up against BWC.

Bwc won't be defeated

Anonymous said...

bwc will be the juggernaut hands down.no equals not even close.last year's team surprised alot of people.this year no surprises are necessary

Anonymous said...

Agreed + rumours jaeger white is going to play in Burnaby

It is unfortunate for Red Deer that they are forced to ice two teams with a draw of around 135,000even though the Calgary and Edmonton teams have around 200,000 - 300,000 per quad and only have to ice one team. With the likes of Dirk, Freeborn, Kapak, Perry, Steenbergen, Olsen, Howarth and Linnel, they would surely be a contender for Westerns. Still can't figure out how AMBHL has come up with that formula...big disadvantage.

It must be nice for BWC to be able to get players from anywhere! From what I here, in Calgary the players play within their quadrants(zones). Can you imagine if all the great players in Calgary were able to be on the same team... bwc would be as good as done.

Ronning was way better in atom. Seto was good in Regina. Barzal is still a very good player. The other bwc guys are decent at best. Let the season begin!

The darkhorse team will be OHA. They have quietly assembled a strong team and will have outstanding coaching.

CONGRATS TO TY RONNING PLAYING FOR BWC BANTAM AAA . SCORING 7 GOALS AND 5 ASSIST IN HIS LAST 3 GAMES. REACHING 50 GOALS AND 50 ASSISTS FOR A 100 POINTS SO FAR THIS SEASON.
