The Winnipeg AAA league is just over a week from beginning but in a prelude to the start of the league is a AA tournament in Virden this weekend.  It will be an 8 team tournament featuring Brandon, Central Plains, Southwest, Melville (SK), Pembina Valley, Central Plaines, Yellowhead and Norman.  Check back through-out the weekend for comments and updates from Virden.

The GSHL has held there 6 team draft and picked squads for the 2011-2012 bantam season.  Later this morning, I hope to have a brief run-down on the GSHL and who looks to be the top teams and players etc.  Stay turned.

Leduc 7 - Spruce Grove 5
And there was one game in the AMBHL last night as Leduc defeated Spruce Grove in a high scoring affair, 7-5. Matt Fonteyne and Justin Young led the way each with 2 goals, while Tristan Starzynski had 3 assists.  Both Fonteyne and Starzynski are expected to be fairly high draft picks for the WHL.  Justin Young is coming from the AA Roughnecks, where last year he had a team leading 27 goals and 57 points, so scoring should be expected from him as well.  For Spruce Grove, Matthew Quartle led the way with 2 goals.  Also of note, Conner Lukan had 2 assists.  Lukan had 41 goals in AA last season.
