An interesting battle last night in exhibition action between the Calgary Bisons and the Calgary Royals saw the Bisons take the game 7-4.  The Bions roared out to a 5-0 lead after 2 periods en route to the win.  The line of Nick Merkley, Braylon Shmyr and Kyle Olsen were on fire collecting 5 of the goals with Merkley having 3 goals and 1 assist and Shmyr 1 goal and 3 assists.  Sawchenko was in goal for the duration of the game for the Royals.  Of course we all know by know that Kyle Olson is a '99 born player who is going to play age advanced.  His brother Keillan Olsen is also on the team.  The Royals feature just 1 player who will be a first year bantam in '98 back Sean Montgomery.

In Saskatchewan Midget action, a handful of players are taking part in the midget AAA pre-season in the smaaaahl.  Last night featured a pair of highly thought of '97 born players who should go high in the bantam draft with Regan Nagy for Moose Jaw and Jayden Halbgewachs for Regina.  In this match up, Nagy came out on top with 2 goals in the game in a 3-2 Moose Jaw win.

And tonight, the POE program is in Minnesota taking part in a 8 team tournament featuring many of of the American players who are on the WEHP Top 50 list for USA born.  We'll keep you up to date all weekend long with how the POE kids are fairing, as well as some selected western American players who we think highly of.
